Richard Poleet is beaten in Roxbury.
April 19, 1976
The white, 48-year-old auto mechanic, who lived at 48 Iffley Road, is dragged from his car by a group of African-American youths at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Eustis Street near 1061 Harrison Avenue. Poleet is left in a coma from which he never recovers, and he dies two years later. Community activist Mel King subsequently declares, “The [Landsmark] beating at City Hall did not justify or explain the random stoning of cars in Roxbury, which did not justify the beating of black bus drivers in South Boston,”
